Oregon State Forester Decker announced today he is soliciting applications from qualified persons interested in becoming a member of the Oregon Forest Resources Institute Board of Directors. OFRI is a state agency based in Portland dedicated to forestry education.

OFRI revises popular illustrated manual of Oregon forest protection laws

Oregon's Forest Protection Laws: An Illustrated Manual � Second Edition, updates, revises and expands this popular guide, first published by OFRI in 2002. Created in cooperation with Oregon State University�s College of Forestry and Associated Oregon Loggers, the 185-page manual illustrates and simplifies the OFPA and its rules.

New OFRI volume offers tips to enhance wildlife habitat

A surge of research in recent years has revealed much about the habitat needs of forest wildlife. And now that research is available to forest landowners in a new publication by the Oregon Forest Resources Institute. A new book offers a synthesis of recent science findings, as well as case studies highlighting success stories of Oregon�s forest landowners. Using forestry techniques, landowners can shape, enhance and even create wildlife habitat for birds, mammals and amphibians while managing lands for timber production.

OFRI earns Gray Family Fund grant in support of K-12 forest literacy program

OSU Starker Lecture Series: Connecting People and Forests A Global Perspective on Urban Forestry Dr. Kirk will be a guest lecturer for the 2011 Starker Lecture Series, the Oregon State University College of Forestry�s annual lecture series. The Starker Lectures have been sponsored since 1985 by the Starker Family in honor of T.J. and Bruce Starker and is supported by the OSU College of Forestry and the Oregon Forest Resources Institute.

OFRI offers framework for forest literacy

A new framework for Oregon forest literacy developed over the past 12 months by a diverse statewide group is now available on the Internet. Oregon Forest Literacy Program, a K-12 Conceptual Guide to Teaching and Learning about Oregon Forests, presents a conceptual framework for educating Oregon�s K-12 students about forests.

Greg Miller elected OFRI board chair

The Oregon Forest Resources Institute said today that its board of directors elected Greg Miller to serve as board chair. Miller has been on OFRI�s board since 2007. Miller replaces Pete Sikora, chief operating officer for Giustina Resources in Eugene, whose term as OFRI board chair expired June 30. Miller also served as chair during an earlier appointment to OFRI�s board. Ray Jones, vice president of resources, at Stimson Lumber Company, was elected vice chair.

A television spot created for the Oregon Forest Resources Institute has won a Telly Award for outstanding creative production. The ad will receive a Bronze Award in the not-for-profit category when the awards are presented in New York at the end of June.

PORTLAND, Ore. � Volunteer mentors from the forest sector community are needed to guide students in grades 5 through 12 at this year�s Pacific Logging Congress 6th �Live In The Woods Show.� The show, which occurs every fourth year, takes place this year on Sept. 15 and 16 at the Longview Timberlands near Clatskanie, Ore., approximately one hour�s drive west of Portland on Highway 30.
