PORTLAND, Ore. Project Learning Tree, a program of the
American Forest Foundation and the Council for Environmental Education, has awarded
the Oregon Forest Resources Institute its Gold Star award at its annual conference
held in Montgomery, Texas.
The Gold Star is the highest award bestowed on its
program partners, in recognition of years of exemplary service to PLT.
The award singled out Norie Dimeo-Ediger, OFRIs
K-12 education director, for leadership in coordinating classroom programs and field
activities in Oregon as well as for helping guide PLTs Model Program
Initiative, which reaches beyond Oregon to benefit programs in other states.
OFRIs
unflagging support of PLT since the mid-1990s has provided thousands of
educators in Oregon with professional development and curriculum support to
help engage their students in learning about the natural world, forests and the
importance of stewardship, said Kathy
McGlauflin, director of Project Learning Tree and senior vice president of the
American Forest Foundation.
PLT uses forests as a window on the world and
provides educators with environmental-education curriculum resources that can
be integrated into lesson plans for all grades and subject areas.
OFRI was created in 1991 by the Oregon Legislature
to improve public understanding of the states forest resources and encourage
environmentally sound forest management through landowner education. To learn
